If sanitarian requirements were met in Basmanny market, no one would die. This was announced by chief of Russian Federal Service for Monitoring of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), head state sanitary inspector of Russian Federation Gennady Onishenko. "According to qualifying standards of markets, there should be no people in market at night. Therefore, nobody should die", - said Onishenko. "When people live, sleep and work at the same place - nothing can be said about sanitary regime observance", - noted Onishenko. In opinion of Rospotrebnadzor head, the causes of the tragedy lie in absence of civilized migration politics in the country. "I am sure that majority of this people are illegal immigrants, therefore, they don`t have appropriate medical treatment. If our economics needs these people government should create all conditions for medical observance and "life not under counter", - he emphasized. Onishenko noted that inhabitation of market workers in insanitary conditions "may lead to epidemic spread of diseases". He also informed that officials of Rospotrebnadzor will check other markets but such measures are insufficient for similar tragedy prevention. Partial roof collapse in Basmanny market took place on February 23 at 5:20 by Moscow time. Area of obstruction exceeds 12 thousand sq. meters. By tentative data, 65 people died, 24 are in hospital.
