Italy is 5.4% short of Russian natural gas

By estimates of experts of Italian energy concern ENI, the volumes of Russian natural gas supplies came to 70 million cubic meters at the set norm of 74 million cubic meters/day.
Incomplete delivery is registered on level of 5.4%. Analogous index was sufficiently higher on March 4 (6 million cubic meters or 8.1%). Refined data about shortage of Russian gas supplies to Italy for March 5 will be published on March 6.
Since January 17 of 2006 Italy is regularly short of natural gas from Russia. The volume of real supplies is considerably lower than assigned by treaty. In opinion of experts, this situation is a consequence of unauthorized collecting of natural gas from pipeline during transit, evidently on territory of Ukraine.
Supplies of Russian natural gas to Italy decreased significantly in February, 2006. During February 9 to 13 Italy was short of 12 million cubic meters of Russian natural gas daily.
