Authorities of Kursk oblast decided to prohibit fowling. Birds migrating through Kursk oblast may be infected by bird flu. Large sources of disease are located in Turkey and other countries, where birds wintered. Analogous measures are taken in several districts of Southern federal region. Veterinarians are concerned that spring migration of birds may lead to spread of dangerous virus H5N1 over the territory of country because many birds living in various Russian regions spend winter at the same place. Meanwhile cases of mass infection by bird flu are recorded in 8 regions of Southern federal region. 900 thousand domestic birds died in Krasnodar krai, 700 thousands - in Dagestan. Only 70 thousand birds died in "Bogoslovsky" battery farm of Stavropol krai on March 8. Russian Federal Service for Monitoring Consumer Rights and Human Welfare estimates damage caused to agriculture of Southern regions of Russia as "serious". Loss of birds continues. Vaccination against bird flu in Southern federal region will start in second decade of March. Battery farms all over the region are closed for quarantine, at any suspicion of flu in private farmstead all livestock is slaughtered without any analyses. Siberia will be the next region for vaccination. Authorities and veterinarians warn that swindlers started sale of fake vaccine against flu, which can be as dangerous for birds as virus of H5N1. Meanwhile administration of capital Zoo decided to evacuate several birds. Despite the fact that all Zoo birds will be vaccinated, part of them will be temporarily taken to Volokolamsky branch.
