ICRC requests to increase funding for humanitarian operations in Ukraine

The international Committee of the red cross requests additional 34 million dollars for the implementation of humanitarian activities in Eastern Ukraine, that will make working in this country one of the five key ICRC operations in 2015, said Tuesday the head of the Main Department of operational activities of the ICRC in the European Union and Central Asia Laurent Korba.

"The red Cross is asking donors to provide an additional 32 million Swiss francs ($34 million). The money will be spent on increasing aid to those who lost residential area as a result of the conflict, the main support systems for health promotion and identification of the victims. Funding will also be used to warn of the dangers of unexploded ordnance and assistance to the emergency services in tackling this problem, " He said.

at the end of last year, the Red Cross has planned in the budget for 2015 cash assistance for humanitarian operations in Ukraine in the amount of 46, 9 million Swiss francs (about 48, $ 3 million).

"The additional Funding will increase the budget of the Ukrainian Bureau of Metropolitan and regional delegations to over 80 million Swiss francs (84, 5 million dollars), making the response of the ICRC on this crisis in one of five global operations division," Korb added.

He said that in 2015, the Red Cross has already delivered more than 3 thousand tons of humanitarian aid " within a controlled opposition in Donetsk and Lugansk regions ". With more than 323 thousand people on both sides of the conflict received food and other assistance.

The conflict in Ukraine has killed more than 6 thousand people. According to the ICRC, humanitarian situation in the Eastern regions of Ukraine remains dire.
