Kyiv city Council has developed a draft decision on the dismantling of Communist symbols in subway stations in the Ukrainian capital, the document has already been endorsed by members of the permanent Commission of the Kyiv city Council on culture and tourism.
According to the draft decision, the fragments of the decoration of the metro stations that will be subject to dismantling as containing Communist symbols were found at the nine stations. Only in the Kiev metro station 52.
The draft decision provides that the dismantling of the symbols will implement the municipal enterprise "Kyiv metro" on their funds, the Department of urban development of the Moscow administration allows storage of disassembled objects, RIA "news" referring to the Ukrainian media. They say that the Kiev metro is also in the process of finalizing the technical documentation for the disassembly of Soviet symbols. Dismantling work can be carried out after adoption by the city Council of the relevant decision. The authors of the draft decision, consider that at the metro stations instead of Communist symbols must appear " elements reflecting Patriotic, cultural and spiritual wealth of the Ukrainian people ". In Ukraine in the framework of the struggle with the Soviet past more than a year continues active destruction of monuments. Radicals began to tear down the monuments to Lenin in Ukraine from December 8, 2013. In 2014, cases of vandalism relatively monuments became more frequent throughout the territory of Ukraine. This phenomenon is called the "war of monuments" or " Leninabad ". On 9 April the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law prohibiting public use and propaganda of the Communist and national socialist symbols in the country, as well as recognizing these criminal regimes.
