The government of Russia established the procedure for monitoring regional authorities of the prices for vital and necessary and essential medicines, informs on Wednesday.

The regulation provides for regional bodies of Executive order inspections of drug prices from pharmacies, medical institutions and other organizations having the license for pharmaceutical activity.

The authorities will observe that the cost of the medicine would not exceed the actual selling price with regard to wholesale and retail allowances established in the field.

Information about the results of such inspections will be posted on the official websites of the regional bodies of the state supervision, the resolution said.

The issue of drugs and their prices became important after the introduction of Western sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine conflict. According to the Ministry of health, the share of foreign drugs in Russia is more than 70%.
