Italian President recommends Dostoevsky Italian President Sergio Mattarella recommended for young Italians to read more, including Russian literature. To start, he suggested with the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and among the writers that have had an influence on him, transferred and Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

Italian favorite of Sergio Mattarella advises young Italians to read more to expand the horizons. "Fully respecting the choice, I would repeat what I declare my young grandchildren: books are an inexhaustible storehouse of understanding life. Start with Dostoevsky, dear children," said the leader of the country during a meeting with young people.

The President stressed that he had made a habit to read a lot more in my younger years. In addition to Dostoyevsky, among the writers who have influenced his views, Mattarella called and Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

Speaking about his own reading interests, Mattarella jokingly said that he loves all genres of literature except spy stories, reports RIA Novosti citing Italian media.

Mattarella has served as President of Italy on 3 February of this year, succeeding Giorgio Napolitano. He comes from a family with deep Christian democratic traditions. His older brother Christian Democrat, Piersanti Mattarella, who served as President of the Autonomous region of Sicily, in 1980, was killed by the mafia.
