Russia called CFE " hopelessly outdated "
In a letter to UN Secretary General, ban Ki-moon, Russia said that the Treaty on conventional armed forces in the European Union " hopelessly outdated ".
Russia's position is included in the published report of the Secretary-General regarding execution of the decision of the General Assembly (GA) 69/47 on conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels. The resolution adopted on 2 December 2014, asks ban Ki-moon "to seek the views of member States on the issue" and bring them to these HECTARES, reports the news Agency. In a letter dated 21 April 2015, the Russian side stressed that " the issues of supervision over conventional arms in the European Union remain relevant, taking into account the most deteriorated over the past year the situation in the field of European security ". Along with this, with Russia's position, Resolution 69/47 " does not reflect contemporary reality ", calling the Treaty " a cornerstone of European security "." The Treaty on conventional military power in the European Union has long lost its "relevance and importance" and ceased to be a " cornerstone of European security ", as it is hopelessly out of date. The Russian Federation has suspended its participation in 2007 ", - reported in the document." The Russian Federation is ready to discuss with our partners ways to develop a new monitoring regime on conventional armaments in the European Union, taking into account modern realities and the interests of both Russia and other European countries, " the document says.

in the report of the Secretary-General included the positions and other countries, among them Argentina, Germany, Spain, Lebanon, Czech Republic and Ukraine. At that moment, as the overwhelming number of them convey their points of view by providing observations on conventional weapons within their areas, Ukraine accuses Russian Federation in the "uncivilized behavior" and "malicious acts" in the end " came to a standstill supervision over conventional arms in the European Union ". The Ukrainian side informed that " is a long-standing responsible participant in this Europe-wide and additional bilateral confidence-building mechanisms in the field of conventional weapons, the Treaty on conventional armed forces in the European Union ", but informs about the failure " to comply with certain provisions of this agreement for reasons of national security ", the blame for the occurrence of which lays on the Russian Federation. On March 10, Russia decided to stop for a while its participation in the mutual meetings of the Advisory group on Treaty on conventional armed forces in the European Union (the joint consultative group on CFE).
