Poroshenko said that distinguishes Ukraine from Russia and closer to Europe
Strong local government is part of Western civilization that distinguishes Ukraine from Russia, said the Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko during the meeting with prominent public figures.
"the development of local government ? it is one of the building elements of Western civilization. The presence of a strong local government, ? recall the Magdeburg law, ? was and will be one of our civilizational differences that set us apart from Russia and closer to Europe ", ? quoted Poroshenko on the Internet office of the head of the Ukrainian country.

Poroshenko said that the amendments to the Constitution provide for " effective preservatives that guarantee the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its unitarity, and decentralization is not concerned with such matters as defence, foreign policy, security, rights and freedoms of citizens ". The head of Ukraine drew attention to "the importance of honest and open conversations about decentralization as one of the most important reforms, which will see Ukraine for many years" and addressed the audience with a call to " become agents of reformist thoughts of decentralization, to be active in the protection of the unity of the country and its further democratic development ". We emphasize that in Ukraine the governors are appointed by the President, and at the same time in the Russian Federation from June 1, 2012 entered into force the law on direct election of the highest officials of areas.
