Tokyo rips trip Medvedev to the Kuril Islands General chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, Yoshihide Suga called the planned visit of Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to the Kuril Islands is unacceptable. He stressed that power at all levels will strive to disrupt the trip.

On a regular daily conference, which happened on 21 August, the Secretary-General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Yoshihide Suga protested against the visit of Prime Minister of Russia on the Kuril Islands. He added that power will vigorously oppose such a development.

"If the visit of Prime Minister Medvedev will take place, it would go against Japan's position on the issue 4 of the Northern Islands, and even hurt the feelings of the Japanese people. This is considered unacceptable. Japan will at all levels to make the effort, so this trip was not implemented", - TASS quoted Japanese policy.

The domestic side 14 August noted that similar kind of explanation from Tokyo unacceptable. "I would like to again remind that to consider the position of Tokyo in the formation of the schedule of the members of the government, we do not intend that such travel undertaken even within a consistent Federal target program "Socially - economic development of the Kuril Islands (Sakhalin region) for 2016-2025" will continue", - said in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia.

Remember, the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that is again going to visit the Kuril Islands and even advised its staff to do the same. In response to the comment by the foreign Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida that similar step Russian Prime Minister hurt the feelings of the Japanese and the request to cancel the trip, a spokesman for the Patriotic leaders of the Cabinet Natalia Timakova stressed that Medvedev himself describes the routes of travel and needs no instruction from the outside.

The problem of membership of the southern Kuril Islands is considered a major obstacle to the full settlement of the Russian-Japanese relations and the signing of the peace Treaty. After the Second world war, all the Kuril Islands were incorporated into the USSR. However the fixture Islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and groups of Habomai Islands disputed by Japan.
