An authorized WWF: Russia and the West are obliged to cooperate in the Arctic
The Arctic should be a place for cooperation between Russia and the West even in the face of tensions arising from the Ukrainian conflict, said the Director of the U.S. Arctic program, world wildlife Fund (WWF) Margaret Williams.

"of course, unfortunately, because of the events in the world, tensions between Europe and Russia has increased. However, the Arctic has always been a place of cooperation, and we must do everything to keep it that way, " said Williams.

Williams added that the deterioration in U.S.-Russian relations did not affect the overall operation of Russia and the world Fund.

"WWF in Russia is a Russian organization. It employs only the citizens of Russia, the Board of Directors also represent the Russians. The same structure in the United States. We have a very scientific approach, and we will organize a constructive dialogue with both governments, " explained Williams.

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine. At the end of July 2014, the EU and the US from point penalties against private individuals and organizations have moved to the measures against entire sectors of Russia's economy. In response, Russia restricted imports of food items from countries that have entered against her punishment. In June 2015, in response to the extension of the sanctions Russia has extended food embargo for one year, until August 5, 2016.
