India will buy Russian helicopters for $1 billion Military-Indian air force purchase of the Russian Federation 48 helicopters for the sum more than 1 billion rubles. Concluded between the countries, the Treaty is considered one of the largest in the current day.

The Council for defence procurement in India has confirmed the purchase from Russia of 48 new helicopters Mi-17-B5 for the needs of the air force, shall notify the Hindu. The volume of one of the major recent contracts amounted to almost 70 billion rupees ($1.1 billion).

In 2012-2015 Russia also sold India 148 military transport helicopters Mi-17 V-5 of 151 available, RIA Novosti reported. Terminate the execution of the contract is planned before the end of the year.

In 2008, Rosoboronexport signed a contract to supply to India of 80 Mi-17 V-5 and property to them, which was performed in the period 2011-2013. In 2012-2013 there were signed another 3 additions for delivery of Mi-17V-5 helicopters for the needs of the air force, the Ministry of internal Affairs and the Secretariat of the President of India, which provided for the supply of 71 cars.

The Mi-17 successfully established itself in the natural environment of India. Russia supplies India more than 70% of military equipment and weapons. According to reliable information of the Federal service for military-technical cooperation, in 2014 Moscow was equipped with military equipment Delhi on a joint $ 4.7 billion, in 2013 - by 4.78 billion. In early June 2015 India and China have expressed interest in the acquisition of new APCS and tanks based on the tracked platform "Armata".
