The organization was created in 1971 in Paris to assist the victims of the armed conflict in Nigeria in the 1967-1970 years.

The organization sends every year more than 3 thousand Volunteers in more than 80 countries, including zones of armed conflict. The volunteers are working in many hot spots. In addition, "Doctors without borders" do preventive and educational work on the battle of drug addiction and AIDS.

Funding doctors without borders is carried out with the help of private donations. About 80 per cent of the funding the Organization receives from 2 million individual donors.
