He said that this year in Naples for the first time in two years, meetings were held between the Russian military and NATO representatives on prevention of incidents at sea.

"We highlighted some incidents and intersection between our forces, But in General I would characterize these meetings as a professional. It was an open, transparent discussion between military, " said Ferguson.

The relationship between Russia and NATO have deteriorated because of disagreements over Ukraine. In a speech at the Atlantic Council Admiral Ferguson has stated many times about the need for NATO to strengthen the defense, in response to the strengthening of military power of Russia.
