Poroshenko tried to convince Parliament to impose a ban on employment discrimination of sexual minorities
During a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions, the head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko emphasized the necessity of the prohibition of discrimination of sexual minorities in the Labour code.
"I am confident that the people's deputies, members of the coalition and not only, have the wisdom and responsibility to vote the laws that specifically relate to visa-free regime ", - said Poroshenko." I have the ability to responsibly say that at the moment the fate of a visa-free regime depends on the voting for these laws, " are his words on the Internet office of the President of Ukraine. He was surprised at the treatment of people's deputies, which came to the presidential administration, on the question of enlarging the possibilities of using their diplomatic passports." They want to use great opportunities of visa-free regime. But two-thirds of the deputies do not want to vote for visa-free regime ", - said Poroshenko. He expressed a strong belief that each of the authorized authority on the contrary is obliged to do everything to not only them, But also every Ukrainian had the opportunity of visa-free regime." We must do everything so that every Ukrainian had the opportunity to travel without visas to Schengen countries ", - noted Poroshenko. Voting for Labour rule in terms of prohibition of Employment discrimination, which is a prerequisite for the abolition of the EU visas for Ukrainians, the head has paid attention that stands for the preservation of the equal rights of all the citizens of our country." As a leader, As an Orthodox Christian, As someone who has been married 31 years and very love his wife, As a Dad of 4 children I am in favour of the preservation of family values, traditional for the Ukrainian society. But As guarantor of the Constitution I'm totally against discrimination of any Ukrainian Residents for any symptom, " said Poroshenko.
He noticed that the amendment which must be voted on, only applies to labour relations and does not touch on the issues of family and marriage. On 5 November the Verkhovna Rada during voting for the draft of the new Labor code, did not include the provision on prohibition of discrimination of sexual minorities, reports the news Agency. For an amendment to ban discrimination on racial, political or religious characteristics, as well as due to gender, sexual orientation, marital or property status and other criteria voted 117 people's deputies with 226 needed. Poroshenko said that all of the requirements from the EU to Ukraine in the framework of the provision of visa-free regime - these are the pillars of the Treaty on unity. He said that each of the existing deputies, coalition members, commissioners, authorities promised Ukrainian citizens to follow in the Pro-European direction and are obliged to fulfill their promises." We currently only do one thing - implement what We have pledged to our voters. Nothing more, " He concluded.
