Hundreds of police officers have been sacked in Turkey for alleged links with leaders who tried to commit a coup.

According to state news Agency Anadolu, 1218 employees of the national police were removed from their posts because of alleged links to Feto - movement-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey blames for a failed coup.

According to estimates, more than 100 thousand civil servants were sent on leave or dismissed within the last four months. This week, 13 journalists have been detained on suspicion in the RAID on the offices of Istanbul newspaper Cumhuriyet. According to Anadolu, the Turkish police searched the homes of two other journalists.

The chief Prosecutor of Istanbul said that the detained journalists stand accused of crimes committed in the name of terrorist organizations.

The new legislative decree adopted last week allows you to dismiss public servants who are believed to be members of terrorist organizations or groups participating in activities against national security or those that are in contact with terrorist organizations or groups.

The decree also allows the President erdoä?an to appoint the heads of all universities in the country, many of whom were previously elected.
