A woman was beaten by immigrant with a beer A Somali immigrant who spoke their native language during a visit to Minnesota, was stunned when the other woman launched into her beer. This week, the accused pleaded guilty to the attack, which police said was committed on racial grounds.

Jodie Marie Burchard-Rish was convicted in the attack on ASMA JAMA, a Somali immigrant in Appleby in October 2015. ASMA JAMA told how her family was sitting in the restaurant, the adults spoke in Swahili, adults often use this language when children are around so that children do not know what adults say. As the group walked past the table Burchard-Rish, she said, "In America, we speak English".

JAMA said she at first ignored the comments but the situation escalated quickly when Burchard-Rish started screaming at her, so the victim returned to their country. "She yelled at me and I admit that I stood face to face with her. I didn't yell, I talked to her calmly," said JAMA, talking about the incident. The defendant then grabbed a mug of beer and threw it in the face of JAMA, and then left the restaurant.

The victim needed stitches for the wound. Now, a year later, she has scars that she glosses cosmetics. JAMA said that the incident changed her life. "I used to be a carefree person. I was never afraid that someone will attack me. I would like to go for a walk alone. But now I have to have someone close at any time. No matter where I go, I'm still afraid, " she said.

JAMA left his home Monday to go to court to hear the charges of third degree assault. In the framework of the agreement on the plea, Burkhard-Rish had to admit in open court in a bias motivated attack. JAMA said she was grateful that the work is done, but I'm not sure Burchard-Rish repented.
