Iraqi forces ready to recapture Mosul On the outskirts of Mosul, thousands of Iraqi forces under the leadership preparing to launch an attack on the city, which is controlled by the forces of ISIS.

In a televised address on Monday morning, the Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi said that "the bell announced the future victory" in the mission to restore the historic city and save more than 1 million people from the "cruelty and terrorism of ISIS."

If this happens, the government Abadi will claim a major victory for the forces to enhance its credibility, to prove their military prowess and put an end to territorial domination of a terrorist group in the oil-rich Northern Iraq.

In the past year, the coalition was focused on a major offensive against ISIL, which began with targeted airstrikes by US-led coalition and Iraqi forces. After the ISIS has captured significant territory of Iraq in an attempt to establish an Islamic Caliphate, Iraqi forces have forced its fighters to withdraw from most parts of the country, including the cities of Tikrit, Ramadi and Fallujah.

Mosul, a city of almost 3000 years of history, represents a last position of ISIS in Iraq. Before becoming the main stronghold of ISIS in Iraq, Mosul had more than 2 million people. Only about 1 million inhabitants remain today.
