The convoy with humanitarian aid was shot down Monday night in the al-Kubra, to the West of Aleppo, prompting the United Nations to suspend its activities in providing aid in Syria.

"All of our information clearly shows that it was an airstrike. This means that only Russia and the Syrian regime are responsible for this attack," said Deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes on Tuesday evening. He did not specify which aircraft the country conducted the attack.

"We believe that the Russian government was responsible for air strikes in the same airspace, taking into account their obligations under the cessation of hostilities, which hosted the humanitarian assistance," said Rhodes, referring to the conditions of the recent agreement on a ceasefire.
