An employee of Australian aid who was kidnapped in Afghanistan in April were released, according to foreign Affairs of Australia Julie Bishop.

A woman who identified as Kerry Jane Wilson in a press release on Monday, was abducted by armed kidnappers at dawn from his house in Jalalabad in late April.

"I confirm that Kerry Jane Wilson, who was kidnapped in Afghanistan in April this year, was released, and now she's safe," said the Bishop.

"I'm very happy for Kerry Jane, and her family, with whom I remained in close contact."

The Australian government has stated that it will not release any details of the circumstances of the release of Wilson, citing the need to protect other people who remain in captivity in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

A number of foreigners were kidnapped in Afghanistan this summer.

Two teachers at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul - American and Australian - were kidnapped at gunpoint earlier this month. And in June, the Taliban kidnapped about 200 tourists. Six were killed on the spot, according to police. Most of them were released, but the group held 20 hostages.
