In Australia, the Frenchman stabbed a British woman The Frenchman yelling the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar" killed a British woman and wounded two people in an attack at a hostel in North-Eastern Australia, police said on Wednesday.

29-year-old suspect did not have any known ties with the Islamic state of Iraq and Syria, and apparently acted alone, said the Deputy police Commissioner of Queensland Steve Golczewski. The police are trying to determine whether this person is motivated by extremism, or something else.

"Although this information will be taken into account during the investigation, we do not exclude any motivations at this early stage," he told reporters Golczewski in the capital of Queensland is Brisbane. "Investigators will also consider the factors of mental health or drug abuse.

The attack occurred Tuesday night in a hostel in the town of Home hill, South of Townsville in Northern Queensland. 21-year-old British woman was found dead on the spot and 30-year-old British man was hospitalized in critical condition. The dog was also fatally wounded in the attack.

The suspect, a French citizen, during a visit to Australia, shouted "Allahu Akbar" - the Arabic expression meaning "God is great" during the attack and during the arrest, police said Golczewski. The killer lived in Australia on a temporary visa for nearly a year, police said.
