The historic town of Ellicott city, Maryland, was devastated by floods on Saturday evening, killing two people. The flood caused devastating damage to homes and businesses, officials said.

One of the tourists while visiting the city with his family was the one who died after their car fell into the raging flood and was carried to the river Patapsco, police said.

One of the witnesses told the Associated Press by phone that the devastation was the worst he's seen in the last 50 years living in the County, including hurricane Agnes in 1972, which the river overflowed. Almost every house was destroyed and the cost of repair can amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, he said.

"It looks like a movie about natural disasters," said the Republican. "Cars everywhere, cars on top of cars, parts of the road disappeared, a part of the sidewalk was gone, the Windows had completely disappeared."

In consequence, the main street in the historic town of Ellicott city was destroyed. Residents of the damaged houses were offered refuge in the centre of the County travelers. The city, approximately 14 miles West of Baltimore, fell to 6.5 inches of rain, according the National weather service, and most of them dropped out on Saturday evening between 7 PM and 9 PM.
