The Meerkat telescope discovered thousands of new galaxies The South African Meerkat radio telescope found a huge number of previously unknown galaxies in a tiny corner of the Universe.

Images taken with a telescope Meerkat, prove that it is the most powerful radio telescope in the southern hemisphere can fully begin to function this year. Currently, 16 of the 64 Meerkat dishes to scan the sky. The project serves as a technological demonstration of the capabilities of South Africa to host huge multi - radio telescope to be built in Australia and South Africa, including dozens of plates.

"Based on the results that are shown today, we are confident that once all 64 plates, will begin its work Meerkat will be a world-leading telescope in its kind before the advent of CA," - said Professor Justin Jonas.

Telescope CA will be commissioned in 2020-ies, it will consist of 3000 dishes, scattered over a 1 square kilometer (0,4 square miles) region and will allow astronomers to look deeper into space than ever before.

CA will have the potential for scientific discoveries in 10 thousand times greater than the most advanced modern tools and will explore black holes, supernovae, dark energy, and look into the origins of the Universe.
