The white house released a statement from President Obama on Twitter Thursday night condemning the attack, which took place in nice, France.

At least 84 people were killed and dozens others injured when a truck crashed into a crowd during the celebration of Bastille Day in nice, France. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those killed and we wish full recovery for the wounded," reads the statement from Obama.

U.S. attorney General Loretta E. Lynch released a statement about the attack in nice, France.

"I join the President in condemning the horrific terrorist attack in nice, France," she said. "My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their loved ones. The Ministry of justice appealed to our French colleagues, to offer assistance in the investigation."

Secretary of state John Kerry, who is in Moscow for meetings with Russian leaders, said the U.S. Embassy in Paris "has made every effort to account for the well-being of citizens in the United States in nice." He urged Americans to contact friends and family directly.

The French network BFM TV reports that the victims gathered along the famous promenade des Anglais in nice, to see the fireworks in celebration of Bastille Day on Thursday evening when a truck at high speed crashed into the crowd. Police later found inside the truck weapons and grenades. The driver was shot by law enforcement.
