South Korea announced the deployment of an advanced missile defense system in Seongju County in the South of the country.

In his statement, the Deputy Minister of national defense Yoo Seong jeha said that the place for missile defence is selected as efficiently as possible to ensure the safety of the local population.

Washington and Seoul announced the deployment of batteries last week, causing thereby the threat from North Korea, which threatened to "physically operate" against THAAD. Yu said that the battery will be able to "protect up to two-thirds of our citizens against North Korea, which threatened nuclear and missile strike".

Official representative of the Ministry of defense of South Korea told CNN that the U.S. and South Korea deployed THAAD as soon as possible, at the latest by the end of next year. THAAD can shoot down short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles at incredible speed and altitude, and has been used in the US for many years to protect their military units.

China and Russia expressed serious concern about the deployment of THAAD. Last week foreign Minister Wang Yi said his deployment was "unfounded." South Korea confirmed that THAAD is purely defensive in nature and will be used only against nuclear and missile threats of North Korea.
