Bookseller from Hong Kong defied China It took three cigarettes to bookseller Lam Wing Ki from Hong Kong, decided to challenge China and to tell the story of his alleged kidnapping. Lam returned to Hong Kong last week. He went missing in October 2015.

The authorities allowed him to visit Hong Kong for one day only, and only on the condition that he would return to China. But they have miscalculated.

Lam said that he was arrested by "special forces", when he crossed the border crossing in Lo Wu. In October 2015, blindfolded and handcuffed he was taken to the detention center in Ningbo, near Shanghai. They kept him in solitary confinement for five months. Lam was so depressed, I contemplated suicide.

"Their methods of prevention was very well thought out. Even if I wanted to remove my long pants, hang them somewhere and kill myself, I wouldn't be able to do it," said the bookseller.

All five bookstores were associated with a publisher who sold books with gossip about the elite of China. Lam said his investigators are focusing on two books published about the President of China XI Jinping.

In one of the books it was said that Chinese President XI Jinping had planned to stay in power much longer than the usual period of 10 years.

Beijing stands on its position that Lum is a Chinese citizen who broke the law on the mainland. But he managed to escape to Hong Kong and now he is out of reach of Chinese authorities.
