In Afghanistan killed 2 journalists NPR Two NPR correspondent, David Gilkey and Zabul Tamannah, were killed on Sunday during a trip to the South of Afghanistan.

"They went with the Afghan army when the convoy came under fire. Their vehicle was struck by projectiles", according to NPR.

The other two members of the crew of the NPR correspondent Tom Bowman and producer Monica Evstatieva, "rode in the car after them," the head of NPR Michael Oreskes told CNN. "Tom and Monica was not injured."

For the first time in 46 years of practice in the NPR journalists were attacked during the execution of the task. The 50-year Gilkey worked as in-house photographer and video editor for NPR for the last 15 years. Again and again he returned to Afghanistan and been in other conflict zones.

"David was deeply committed to his work and wanted to cover the military conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq," said Oreskes. "He wanted to know what happens to people there, I think that's why he continued to work. - Because he wanted to understand what happens with soldiers and civilians."

Tamannah - the Afghan independent journalist hired by NPR to be a translator for the team of journalists.

Team NPR was on a business trip in the country for about three weeks. She was supposed to be a long month. The team has filed several stories, including a detailed report on the Afghan mission commando and remembrance Day from Kandahar pictures Gilkey was used on the online radio station NPR, digital stories and slide shows.

Afghanistan remains a dangerous place for journalists - domestic and foreign. Too many journalists have given their lives in order to tell the Afghan story.
