At least 40 people were killed, after Chinese power plant collapsed platform, according to State news Agency Xinhua.

Many people are still trapped under the scaffolding. The incident occurred on land in the town of Fengcheng, in the southern province of Jiangxi. The platform was built around the tower which was being repaired, Xinhua reported.

68 people worked on the platform at the moment of collapse, according to the State administration of China for safety.

More than 200 firefighters were deployed, and search and rescue services. Images from state television CCTV showed a pile of twisted metal and scores of rescuers looking for survivors under the rubble.
