Vardah tropical cyclone struck the Indian city of Chennai. The storm uprooted trees, overturned cars and caused extensive damage to buildings. At least 10 people were killed, according to the National management of emergency situations.

Winds reached 140 km per hour (87 mph), making Vardah is 1 category hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Currently, the hurricane began to move inland, bringing gusty winds and heavy rains descended on the inner part of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The meteorological Department of India has issued severe warnings about the rain for the whole of South India. Fishermen told not to go out on the boat for another two days. Chennai, a city on the Bay of Bengal in the Eastern part of India, is the second largest financial center in the country after Mumbai.

Vardah tropical cyclone is the strongest storm that hit India from October 2014. Vardah also can affect the fishing villages along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
