Peö?a Nieto: Mexico will not pay for the wall Mexican President Enrique peö?a Nieto said Wednesday that his country "will not pay for any wall," defying U.S. President Donald Trump. But he did not cancel his trip to the States planned for next week.

"Mexico doesn't believe in walls. Mexico will not pay for any wall," he said in a video message posted on Twitter and in Spanish for CNN. Peö?a Nieto said he will await the final report from its senior officials who came to Washington Wednesday to meet with the leadership of trump, before deciding what steps it will take. Peö?a Nieto also said he ordered government agencies to increase protection of immigrants.

"I asked the Minister of external relations to strengthen measures to protect our citizens," he said. He added that the 50 Mexican consulates in the U.S. will be used to protect the rights of immigrants in the country. He also issued a call to action for legislators and civil society organizations to help immigrants. Peö?a Nieto closed the message by saying that Mexico offers and expects respect. "Mexico offers its friendship with the people of the United States and expresses his desire to come to agreements with the government, deals which will benefit Mexico and Mexicans," he said.

Earlier in the day, trump had signed the two orders to guide the construction of a wall on the us-Mexican border, telling to increase patrol force at the border and increasing the number of immigration officers who carry out the deportation.

In his speech on Monday, peö?a Nieto said that his government is ready to hold talks with the United States, if the national sovereignty of Mexico is respected. He outlined the economic integration and respect of migrants ' rights.
