Assad hopes for joint efforts of the U.S. and Russia in the fight against ISIS The leader of Syria praised the rhetoric of Donald trump about terrorism, saying that the promise of a new U.S. President to set priorities in the fight against terrorism, including ISIS, was "promising."

President Bashar al-Assad, whose government is waging a bloody civil war, said the Belgian media, it's too early "to expect something practical," from the President of the United States, but he has high hopes for joint efforts of the U.S. and Russia in the fight against ISIS.

"Trump during election campaign and after the campaign promises to act against terrorists, mainly ISIS, that's what we asked in the last 6 years," said Assad. "It's too early to expect anything practical. Cooperation between the US and Russia will be positive for the rest of the world, including Syria."

This is not the first time that the Syrian leader praised trump. In an interview with state media, SANA, in December last year, Assad said that the elected President be "a natural ally" against the terrorists. Assad said in an interview that the EU is "supporting terrorists" in Syria. His government had repeatedly referred to the opposition fighters, some of which are supported by the Western allies as terrorists.

Peace talks sponsored by Russia and Turkey was held in the capital of Kazakhstan. After initial negotiations in late January, the delegates issued a statement that they agreed on "the establishment of a tripartite mechanism to monitor and ensure full compliance with the cease-fire to prevent any provocations and to determine all the conditions of the ceasefire." The Commission also confirmed the belief of the parties that there is no military solution to the Syrian conflict, and that conflict can only be resolved through a political process.
