Trump chose General for the post of national security adviser President Donald trump announced Monday that Lieutenant General McMaster will serve as the next national security adviser, filling a void left by last week's sudden dismissal of Michael Flynn.

McMaster, head of the army Integration Center, will be one of the main advisers on national security and foreign policy trump taking over the reins at the White house national security that was left unmanaged after Flynn was forced to resign.

A retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, who served as the acting national security adviser, will return to his role as chief of staff of the national security Council.

Trump announced his decision on Monday at the residence in Florida, where a day earlier he had talked with McMaster and a few other candidates for the post of national security adviser. "He is a man of immense talent and experience," trump said. McMaster called the appointment a privilege and said he is looking forward and will do "everything to protect the interests of the American people." McMaster has a PhD in military history from the University of North Carolina at chapel hill. The choice of trump earned quick praise from the contingent of the Republican foreign policy leaders in Congress.
