The actor plays Tyler Hawkins, a man who falls in love while overcoming the suicide of his brother in new movie Remember Me. His love interest is portrayed by Emilie de Ravin, and he has previously admitted he found their sex scenes hard to shoot.

Robert has now revealed the whole process was incredibly embarrassing, and left him contemplating what a tough job adult movie stars have. "When you end up doing it, you have this little patch on your privates. I didn`t really tape it up properly, so I`d spent so long taping it round myself and then literally it falls off within one second and it`s taped to the sheet. And you realise the whole crew are looking directly at your butt crack," he explained. "I can`t think of anything exciting for them about this. It gives you a lot of respect for porn stars."

The process was made even worse as director Allen Coulter was keen to make the scene as sexy as possible. He presented Robert and Emilie with a series of raunchy items which he encouraged them to use to make it appear more realistic.`

"We got on to the bed and the director was like, `I got you these things, if just maybe you wanted to use them. You don`t have to use them, maybe it will make you more comfortable.? They were these bondage things: lube and handcuffs and porn videos. It was so funny," Robert revealed to British newspaper The Sunday Times.

It`s not just sex scenes which leave Robert feeling uncomfortable. He is still struggling to come to terms with the sex symbol status he has acquired following his portrayal of vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies.

He finds the attention from young girls particularly strange as he thinks he looks quite feminine in the films. "The plucked my eyebrows, but you get to the point where you think, `OK, I look like a transvestite now.` "
