Satellite images of the Earth at night - often called "night lights" - interesting to the public and are a tool for basic research for nearly 25 years, " NASA said in a statement. Miguel Roman, a scientist from centre of the flight, said that his team is able to "track cyclical changes, caused by repetitive actions, such as festive lighting and seasonal migration". "We can also track gradual changes associated with urbanization, migration, economic changes and electrification. The fact that we can keep track of all these different aspects of the underpinning of what defines a city is simply overwhelming," he said in a statement.
