Trump allowed limited arming of Kurds President Donald trump allowed limited arming the Syrian Kurds to help in the fight against ISIL, the Pentagon said on Tuesday, in preparation for the antagonism of Turkey.

"Yesterday, the President authorized the defense Ministry to equip the Kurdish Syrian democratic forces, if this is necessary to ensure a clear victory over ISIS in raqqa, Syria", - said the chief Pentagon spokesman Dana white in a statement.

The equipment includes small arms, machine guns, construction equipment and armored vehicles, said the official representative of the United States. Supplies and weapons will be distributed so that they were sufficient to achieve the specific goals associated with Raqqa, the official added.
It is a step which has long been seen in the Pentagon, but was postponed due to strong opposition from allies in NATO in Turkey.

A US official said several administration officials, including defense Minister James Mattis, talked with Turkish interlocutors on Tuesday to explain the decision of the United States. Mattis met with their counterparts in Copenhagen on Tuesday in the framework of the conference dedicated to the fight against ISIS, in which also participated the Minister of defence of Turkey.

"We are in diplomatic dialogue with the Turks, and today it is a very useful discussion," Mattis said Tuesday after meeting with reporters, without referring directly to the issue of arming the Kurds. Deputy Secretary of state Tom Shannon also held a closed meeting with the Advisor to Turkish President Ibrahim Kalinin by Tuesday at the State Department.

The Pentagon has stated that he will continue to give priority to the armed Arab forces in Syria, but acknowledged the concern of Ankara.
