Ex-FBI Director will investigate Russia The Ministry of justice on Wednesday appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller special adviser to monitor the Federal investigation of Russian meddling in elections in 2016, including possible collusion between voters President Donald trump and Russian officials.

The Deputy General Prosecutor Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to the post, saying in a letter obtained by CNN. Attorney General Jeff Sachs previously dismissed from participation in the investigation in Russia in connection with its role as a prominent adviser on elections. As special counsel Mueller "is authorized to initiate criminal proceedings for Federal crimes related to the investigation of these cases", according to the Ministry of justice, Rosenstein.

The appointment of Mueller was aimed at suppressing a wave of criticism with which the tramp and his administration has faced since then, trump fired FBI Director James Comey last week in the middle of an intense FBI investigation of the links between the campaign staff of trump and Russian officials. In his statement, trump said that the investigation confirmed that between his campaign and Russia there was "no conspiracy".

"As I have repeatedly stated, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no conspiracy between my campaign and any foreign organization. I look forward to when this issue will be completed."

In a brief statement, Muller said: "I accept this responsibility and will fulfil it to the best of their ability".
