Trump: China failed to tame North Korea Two high-ranking administration official trump insisted that the United States and China share a common understanding about the threat posed by North Korea, the day after President Donald trump tweeted that China's attempts to bring the regime in line, "didn't work".

"China understands that the United States considers North Korea a major threat to our security," Clinton said Rex Tillerson to reporters after meetings with Chinese counterparts. "We reiterated to China that they have a diplomatic responsibility to provide a much stronger economic and diplomatic pressure on the regime if they want to prevent further escalation in the region."

The Minister of defence James Mattis reinforced the message, calling the dialogue "open and Frank" and insisting that "China continues to work on these problems." For several months, the administration trump lobbied for China to exert its economic influence on the North Korean government, trying to stop the activities in the field of nuclear weapons and developing missiles in this country.

Trump said Wednesday at a rally in cedar rapids, Iowa that the U.S. has "very good relations with China, and I love President XI". However, he added: "I wish we were a little pacified North Korea through China, but it seems not working".
