Chery plans to conquer the European market with their electric cars Chinese automaker Chery is considering Berlin as a place where to open its first European branch in which to create the design of his cars to Europe.

Chery Automobile plans to open its first European design Studio, as Chinese automaker sets its sights on Europe with a new line of electrified cars.

The company is considering Berlin as one of the potential sites, said Executive designer Chery James hope, who will lead the design work of the automaker in the region.

This is the second attempt of James hope, the former CEO of GM and Ford were lured away from GM in 2012 to create a design center in Shanghai Chery.

"I am very pleased that I was asked to create a design center Chery in Europe, he said. "After the establishment of the centre in Shanghai is a new challenge".

This week, Chery will present M31T at the motor show in Frankfurt. The concept is close to production is preceded by a preview of the compact SUV, which in coming years will lead to a carmaker on the European market, said Chery. According to the company, this is the first in a family of car models that Chery intends to sell in the European markets across multiple segments. The new range will include a hybrid electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles battery.

Hope will play a key role in the European automobile plans since its main purpose is to create a global presence. "We are an international exporter of Chinese OEM-manufacturers of N1 and part of a strategic business plan to establish a Studio of international level to bring the Chery project to the next level," he said.

Since coming to Chery five years ago, hope has held several key positions, including Executive Director of the project center for 90 people in Shanghai in 2015 before moving to Germany last month to begin his job.

The former CEO of Ford and GM Steve Aime took the same position hope in Shanghai. Both will report to the head of Department of development of Chery Raymond Berzinski.

2012 Chery design team added several experienced executives, including former designer for Mercedes-Benz Sergio Loureiro da Silva, who joined Opel in 2012 and became head of design at Chery interior design in 2014, as well as former Porsche designer Hakan and Ford Saracoglu, which develops advanced design.

In addition to developing their own cars, Chery also operates joint ventures with Jaguar Land Rover and Israel Corp. in China.
