Former head of Department sanctions Daniel fried said that sanctions against Russia did not fulfill its task.

He said the US imposed sanctions helped to stop the advance of Russian troops in Ukraine and forced to conclude the leadership of the Russian Federation the Minsk agreement. However, according to him, the effectiveness of the sanctions is over. Daniel fried believes that his country should oppose the policy of Russia, but, in any case, the parties need to have direct contact. On the other hand, a former employee of the Department of state believes that the cooling of relations between the two countries will not last forever. In his opinion, the common ground is the fight against international terrorism, as well as addressing the issues of nuclear and missile programmes of the DPRK.

The Russian side has repeatedly said that is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and not in any way interfere with a civil war in the Donbass. Western countries and from Ukraine was never presented with evidence of the presence of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine.
