The state Duma has approved in the first reading a government bill to strengthen the reward for those who fled from the accident scene.

Documents make amendments to the 2nd, fourth and sixth part of the 264-th article of the criminal code.

If in the accident a man died, hit-and-run has a chance to get from 2 to seven years in prison. In the presence of 2 or more victims - from 4 to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions.

If no one died, but the participants suffered serious injuries, the responsibility for strays from the events of driver will be the same as for drunk: up to 4 years of punishment.

The authors of the projects are pushing that the culprit should be at the crash site. It aims to protect the interests of all road users, they explain.

Also, the State Duma adopted in the first reading amendments to the publication of the code of administrative offences (Cao) " Failure to perform duties in connection with dorozhno-transport incident ".
