The decree takes effect from the moment of its official publication.

Astana (literally "capital" ) was named in 1998 when it became the capital of Kazakhstan. Until 1961 the city was called Akmolinsk, then renamed as Tselinograd, and from 1992 to 1998 he was called Akmola.
