The director of Lindsay Lohan`s next film has promised to postpone production until the actress is ready to work.

Lindsay was due to begin shooting Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story soon but was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail followed by 90 days in a rehab facility yesterday. She was handed the punishment after violating the terms of her probation by failing to attend alcohol education classes.

Even though Lindsay`s sentence has delayed production of Inferno, Matthew Wilder - the writer and director of the movie about the infamous adult actress - has voiced his support for the star.

"We are proud to have this remarkable artist on our film," Wilder wrote in a statement, according to New York magazine. He also commented on the "outrageously outsized sentence," before adding, "I hope this will turn the story for her a little bit and remind people that this is someone who is serious about acting and who is really different from the cartoon portrayed in the tabloid press."

Lindsay is currently in negotiations to appear in The Dry Gulch Kid and producer Kerry Wallum has also vowed to wait for her if she wants the role.

Even though the 24-year-old made a tearful plea to Judge Marsha Revel before she was handed her sentence, Lindsay?s friends are believed to be secretly relieved she has been ordered to enter rehab.

Lindsay`s father Michael Lohan has repeatedly claimed his daughter is addicted to prescription medication and those closest to her are hoping she will now be forced to clean up her life.

"This was a long time coming. Lindsay has been spinning out of control and unfortunately this may be the best thing that could happen to her," a source close to the star told FOX411.com. "Since the [hearings] began last year, she has been carrying on and acting out despite the warnings of the court. Her emotions were wild - up and down. She slept all the time and it was difficult to wake her. Those were the scariest times."
