Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the Foundations of state policy on nuclear deterrence. The corresponding decree posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The document takes effect from the date of signing, i.e., June 2.

"The Russian Federation considers nuclear weapons only as a deterrent, the use of which is at a forced measure, and taking all the necessary efforts to reduce nuclear dangers and prevent the aggravation of bilateral relations that could spark a military conflict, and among them nuclear," - said in the document.

The state policy of nuclear deterrence is defensive in nature, but its Foundations have the ability to be updated depending on external and internal factors outlined in the decree.

The main dangers for the Russian Federation named:

Deterrence aims to ensure that the potential enemy knew about the inevitability of retribution for aggression.

Moscow still reserves the right to nuclear attack or in response to the same attack, or in case of danger to the existence of the country and wants to implement nuclear Deterrence for countries and coalitions who consider her a potential enemy and have nuclear capabilities.
