The state Council of Turkey annulled the decision of 1934 on the Museum status of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and registered the temple as a mosque, informs TV channel si-EN-EN Turk.

Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan had previously said that waiting for the decision of the Supreme administrative court on the question under consideration and will be dependent on him.

What is happening has caused a great resonance. Concern was expressed to UNESCO, Greece, Russia and other organizations and countries. However, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara has the right to act without considering the views of other countries.

Aya Sofia was founded by the Christian Emperor Justinian, was opened in 537 year. More than 1000 years, the Cathedral was the largest Church in the Christian world. After the capture of Constantinople by the Ottomans and the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453, it was rebuilt into a mosque but since 1934 the building by decree of the founder of the modern Turkish country of Kemal Ataturk has been a Museum.
