By information of Central Election Committee 1544 candidates are vying for places in the 125-seat parliament. This is 4 times more than during previous parliament elections.

There are several innovations during these elections. First time in history of Azerbaijan elections are held by majority system. But despite of this fact the main rivals are again leading political parties - ruling New Azerbaijan Party against Democratic coalition Freedom, "Musavat" and Popular Front parties.

To make parliament elections honest and open special invisible ink for marking elector`s fingers will be used. Also 2 American companies - ÐA Goverment Service and Ìitofsky International - will carry exit polls.

To declare elections valid Election Code of Azerbaijan doesn`t provide any certain quorum of voted citizens. Delegate will be considered elected if he gathers the majority of votes in certain election region. Elections can be declared invalid and second elections can be held in case if 2 or more candidates gather equal amount of votes.

To cover elections about 260 representatives of 80 foreign mass media and about 200 local journalists registered at Central Election Committee.
