Russia and Iran are interested in energization of political settlement in Iraq, the Middle East and Afghanistan, said Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov in his interview for RIA Novosti.

"Russia and Iran are interested in energization of political process of settlement in Iraq, the Middle East and Afghanistan - in regions situated in immediate proximity to our countries and everybody helps this settlement as far as possible." - said the head of Russian Security Council.

Igor Ivanov noted cooperation of two countries in the framework of Shanghai collaboration organization and reminded Russia supported Iran?s request to take part in a work of this organization as an observer.

"We consider that useful taking into account we have specific interests in regional cooperation with Iran which in its turn is interested in this cooperation", - said Russian Security Council Secretary.
