Russian football union approved new limit for legionaries New, harder limit for legionaries which appear in country championship has been approved by the executive committee of Russian football union (RFU).

At the suggestion of the president of Russian football union Vitaly Mutko who enlisted the support of members of Russian football premiere-league (holds national championship in highest division under the treaty with RFU), there must be no more than seven foreigners among players during a match in 2006.

The number of legionaries was reduced to 8 earlier. Now the former rule was cancelled, too, which said the limit did not work for football players who played more than 10 matches in their national teams.

According to the scheme of further toughening of the limit there must be 5 Russian players during a game in 2007-2008 and six in 2009.

The meeting in "Luzhniki" was held as closed session.
