Vladimir Putin has signed the law, giving authority to Public Chamber to control maintenance of liberty of speech in mass-media, informs President?s press-cutting service.
The law gives authority to Public Chamber to exercise public control on liberty of speech maintenance in mass-media. In particular, Public Chamber is given the authority to attract citizens, public associations and mass media representatives to discuss questions concerning liberty of speech maintenance in mass-media, realization of the right to legal information distribution, providing guarantees for liberty of speech and freedom of information, and to develop recommendation concerning the question discussed.
Moreover, the law gives the right to make a conclusion on liberty of speech violation in mass media, which can be passed, depending on their content, to registering, oversight or legal bodies, mass-media, committed violations, or directly to founders or chief-executives of the mass-media, or to other competent state agencies or officials.
