Term of simplified Russian citizenship granting to ex-USSR citizens prolonged Vladimir Putin has signed the federal law "About introduction of amendments to article 14 of Federal law "About citizenship of Russian Federation", informed the press-service of Russian president.

The law, passed by State Duma on December 21 and approved by Council of Federation on December 27, 2005, prolongs the term of favorable Russian citizenship granting procedures for ex-USSR citizens until January 1, 2008.

According to part 4 of article 14 of Federal law "About Russian citizenship" ex-USSR citizens, who arrived to Russia from ex-USSR states and registered by place of residence in Russia before July 1, 2002 or received permission on temporary residence in Russian Federation, are granted Russian citizenship without following the requirements about habitation term on territory of Russia, presence of livelihood, knowledge of Russian language, and also without residential permit if they apply for Russian citizenship before January 1, 2008.

Federal law prolongs estimated term till January 1, 2008 and also extends favorable procedures on ex-USSR citizens, who have got residence permit after July 1, 2002.
