Poroshenko called the project of changes to the Constitution " vaccine against federalization "
The head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko tried to convince MPs of the Verkhovna Rada as soon as possible to make changes in the Constitution, noting that they are " an antidote federalization " of the country.
" We proposed decentralization reconciled with European experience. This is the antidote of federalization, with powerful against it. Ukraine was, is and there will be a unitary state, and this fundamental principle remains inviolable, inviolable, incorruptible, " said Poroshenko, reports " news Agency. Poroshenko said that from making changes in the Constitution depends peace in the state and said that the only official language in the country will remain Ukrainian, however village, settlement, city, district and regional councils shall have the right to grant within its powers the special status of Russian, and other languages of national minorities. First of Poroshenko said that the draft amendments to the Constitution will provide for the extension of the powers of the regions in respect of the honouring of different aspects of historical memory and use different cultural traditions language policy. While Poroshenko called himself a supporter of parliamentary-presidential form of governance and exclusion of granting the Russian language a state status. Before that, in the Ukrainian media appeared information about impending changes in the Constitution of Ukraine, providing for the extension of the powers of the Parliament and government, as well as the curtailment of the rights of the President. According to the proposals, the entire Cabinet will be appointed by the Verkhovna Rada on the submission of the Prime Minister. It is envisaged that the Cabinet will be responsible only to the Parliament and the President only accountable. The head will be deprived of the right to file a submission on the appointment of the Ministers of foreign Affairs and defense. However, on Thursday the parliamentary majority " Fatherland " and nationalist " Liberty " did not support the proposed Poroshenko changes to the Constitution.
